Last Tuesday was election night at West Hartford. STN took a look at the process of becoming an elected official and why students should care about which candidates are elected. According to Rebecca Townsend, Students should pay attention to the elections in their towns because the elections help determine budgets and budgets run universities.
In order to be able to run for an election and win, you need to get your name recognized. Beth Bye, a candidate running for Board of Education in West Hartford claims, “The campaigning is the best part about running because you really get to talk to people. You get to hear what the issues are you go to their door on their terms and they tell you so you learn a lot about the town.” Bye was reelected to her incumbent position as a board of education member.
