This February 21st the University of Hartford invites you to help celebrate its 55th birthday. The celebration includes many games, fun foods, free give aways at our men’s basketball game, and a Founders Day float contest in celebration of Mardi Gras. In previous years the University celebrated Founders Day with a typical birthday theme, this year there’s more in store.
Get ready for the fiesta as the first-ever Mardi Gras Float Contest will be held in Millard Circle at 12:30 p.m in celebration of both Founders Day and Mardi Gras! During this time, you can indulge in some good Brazilian eats at Gengras and take place in the festivities by wearing the Mardi Gras beaded necklaces that will be given out. The winner of the Float Contest will receive a monthly pizza party for them self and his/her friends. Whether you want to create a float by yourself of with a group of friends such as athletic teams, fraternities, sororities, clubs, the contest is open to all students who wish to participate.
Floats are asked to be creative and constructed on wheels, whether you use a car, a golf cart, of just a wagon, all students are welcomed! To enter send and email to Caitlin Terry at by 4 p.m. on Monday February 6 titled “Founders Day Float” and include your group’s name, names of participants and contact information with a brief description of the float. Have fun with your float as if will be judged on school spirit, creativity, overall appearance, craftsmanship, and the audience’s response. The first 500 students who show at the Men’s Basketball game at 7:00 p.m. vs. Stony Brook while wearing the Mardi Gras necklaces, will win free T-shirts. Additionally, everyone who enters the arena will receive a sheet of paper and can participate in a paper airplane contest. The contest will take place during halftime, and whoever lands their paper airplane in the center circle of the court will be rewarded with fun prizes. Additionally at halftime the winner of the float contest will be announced.
