Travel Tips

With the end of the fall semester approaching, students must find a way to come home for the holidays and winter break.

STN has some travel tips to find the cheapest way home, whether you are on a plane, train, or automobile.

For those flying home for winter break, it is suggested that the best time to buy are at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. For the best prices, checkout websites such as Orbitz.com or Bing Travel to find the best deals. The closest airport to the University is Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. If you drive to the airport, you can make it there in less than a half an hour.

Research shows the best days for departures, such as Bradley International Airport, is in the middle of the week during Wednesday.

If you are not flying home for the holidays, you can book a train in downtown Hartford at Union Station. Whether you are heading into nearby train stops such as New York City, New Haven, or Boston, be sure to check the Amtrak website for a list of departure times and dates for tickets. The train station is only an 8 to 10 minute cab ride from campus.

Union Station is not only a train station, but it is a bus station as well.

Peter Pan and Greyhound bus lines both run out of Union Station allowing transportation through out the region. If you are looking for an alternative however, Megabus frequently offers cheaper tickets at your convenience. They even offer tickets for as low as one dollar, but remember to book in advance if you do, because they go fast.

Be aware that Megabus does not run out of Union Station, but on Columbus Boulevard in between Morgan and Talcott Street.
