What Does the Future Hold For the Women’s Basketball Team after Coach Rizzotti’s Departure

On Friday April 15th 2016, the University of Hartford campus was rocked with the news of long time Women’s Basketball Head Coach Jennifer Rizzotti’s resignation. She will fulfill the same position but will be going to the nations capitol Washington D.C to coach for George Washington University. Many on campus were upset with the departure, but for Athletic Director Anton Goff, he has nothing but praise for the former head coach.

“Obviously she is a legend here,” He said “17 years in this business at this level you really do not have coaches that spent that much time at one place, it is very rare and for her to have built this program up and put Hartford on the map has been great.”

The decision to leave has impacted the players the most, but Goff reassured them that nothing will change. He told the players that he will find a great coach for them, and that he wanted everyone to stay. He also expressed that the players will have the exclusive chance to meet with the candidates one on one because he wants their input also.

So far there has been a lot of interest in the open position, every since the announcement came through.

AD Goff said his phone “has not stopped ringing which a good thing because it is better to be wanted then unwanted, but we are going to go through it all and find the best possible coach for the University of Hartford.”

As of right now, there is not a deadline for when Goff will name the next Head Coach for the Women’s Basketball team.

However, who ever is hired will have some pretty large shoes to fill, as they will be replacing a Hartford icon.
