As Tax Day is approaching, it is important to not waste any time so that your taxes can be by April 15th. To help make this easier for you, the government provides a free site where forms can be obtained and taxes can be sent.
According to Barry Broden, professor of business and administration, you can automatically put numbers in the online form, and then either print the forms out or e-mail it directly.
Along with this website, other tax-computing electronic software such as Turbo Tax and H&R Block are good as well, as they are very basic and easy to use. Broden says they “asks you a lot of questions, and puts the dollar amounts in the right places.”
By sending the form in online, Broden says that the refund will be in the mail within 5-7 business days. If the tax forms are sent via regular mail, it can take up to 8 weeks for the refund to arrive.
Even though there was a small setback in the beginning of the year due to the economic surplus plan, there should not be a long wait because of it.
Finally, if you have a problem and cannot get your taxes in before April 15th, you do not have to worry about an audit. The government provides an automatic 6 month extension to everyone, meaning that your taxes are not due until the middle of October.Back to Main Page
