A mass shooting occurred this morning, August 3rd, at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas leaving 20 people dead and 26 injured. The suspect is a 21 year-old white male who drove all the way from Allen, Texas.
The suspect is identified as Patrick Crusius. Crusius first opened fire in the parking lot of the Walmart and then went inside to continue the shooting. El Paso police Chief, Gregory K. Allen said the shooting was reported at 10:39 a.m. and police responded six minutes later. The suspect surrendered the police and was taken into custody. The crime appears to have "a nexus at this point in time to a hate crime." according to Allen, but the FBI is still reviewing all the evidence.
Those wounded were transported to various hospitals and the police immediately put out an urgent call for blood donations due to the high number of injuries. Authorities asked those who want to help to consider going to area blood donations centers.
El Paso police are currently working with the FBI, DEA, Sheriff's department, and federal and state agencies. Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott called the shooting "one of the most deadly days in the history of Texas."Back to Main Page
