The gospel choir has been apart of the University of Hartford campus for awhile, but current director, Shane Davis, started in 2018, after he was invited to perform as a guest artist at one of their concerts. The middle school math teacher in the Bloomfield Public School district believes that gospel choir is more than just singing. It's a way for people bond through their faith and the experiences of fellow members and spread their love of God.

The choir is always welcoming new members who love to sing and share their faith on campus. Davis states in an interview, “As long as they want to express themselves and their love for God and their love for Christ. Whether we are in rehearsal or not in rehearsal and we try to edify ourselves every time we come together to make sure our light is shining so that everyone can see we are believers.” They do more than sing in their meetings. They share stories, encourage each other, and grow together in their faith, which allows them sing with more heart and soul.

The gospel choir recently had their spring concert and it was a huge success. This was their first concert since 2019, because of COVID concerns. The seats were filled, the audience was engaged, and it was a night Davis will never forget. “It was just a night to remember. You kinda had to be there like it was one of those kind of nights and it was an experience like none other, but that’s what happens when you sing gospel music, it’s an experience," stated Davis.

To join in on this experience, all students have to do is show up and join the groupme. They have meetings every Monday at 7:30 in GSU North Cafe.
