Women’s Soccer Storms Into Postseason

Well its official the Hawks are going to the postseason. After missing a chance at the America East last season coach Natale has brought the Hawks back where they belong. If you can recall Hartford won their tenth America East Championship in 2006 after beating nationally ranked Maine and BU. Unfortunatly they went out in the first round of the NCAA tournament with a loose to Rutgers.

A few years later and we may not be beating any ranked teams however the team has made a few significant upgrades getting them the third seed in this years tournament. Lwts take a look back at how the Womens Soccer squad made it to this point. Back in July everyone was shocked to hear that the team was aquiring ten new players. Some of the players such as Arielle Aikens, Caroline Dixon, Amanda Lo Bello, Nicole Weil, and Ameilia Pereira made instant impacts on the club. Perhaps it took some time to get them clicking as the Hawks started with a 1 and 5 record.

They didn’t score a goal at home until their fifth game at Alumni Stadium. When Michelle Babin blasted her goal against St. Josephs on September 19th that’s when things finally worked. From that point forward the team went 5-2-3 with a 4-2-2 America East record. With Maine, who delivered one of those loses, just around the corner things are looking up for this talented squad.

If they can find a way to outlast the Blackbears on Thurday its off to Stony Brook for a matchup against the Seawolves on Halloween. So I’d bring my Hawk costumes to the island if I were you.
