Suffield and Ellington boys varsity soccer battled to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday, September 15, in an early-season matchup between two familiar Connecticut programs. Neither team was able to separate itself by the final whistle, with both sides finding the back of the net once and having to settle for the draw.
The matchup gave Suffield an opportunity to test itself against an Ellington team that entered the week unbeaten in league play. Ellington had opened its conference schedule with a scoreless tie against Granby Memorial before beating Rockville 4-1. For Suffield, the 1-1 result was a strong response after beginning the season with a close 2-1 loss to Old Lyme. With both Suffield and Ellington having competed in the Class M state tournament last season, the early-season meeting gave both teams another look at the type of competition they could see later in the year.
