Walk for Weaver

Not many can say they’ve won two conference tournaments and been to the NCAA tournament 3 times in 4 years. However current Hartford grad student Amanda Weaver did it while playing for the women’s basketball team from 2007-2011. After her graduation Amanda continued her study of health sciences with the dreams of one day earning her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Also unlike many Amanda has recently been diagnosed with colon cancer.
In response to the news the lady hawks decided to start a fundraiser to help her family, entitled walk for weaver. This is what could be one of many Amanda Weaver fundraisers, the Physical Therapy Student Association is planning there own event in the Spring.
Participants would donate $10 dollars, be given a T-shirt, and walk a 2 mile track set up through the campus. In attendance were over 1,000 fans and friends from the university along with several former teammates, members of rival basketball teams UNH and UMBC, plus members of most university clubs, fraternities, and sororities. Overall the team raised more than 45,000 dollars.
The Weaver family sent a letter to the University with the following message:

“Our family was overwhelmed with the outpouring of support we received from the Walk for Weaver. The incredible amount of monetary donations will help tremendously with Amanda’s medical expenses, but please know that your prayers and the love that we have received from all of you are priceless. May God bless you all.

With our most sincere gratitude and love,
the Weaver Family Mike, Susan, Amanda, & Alyssa
