The 60-year-old talk show host has seen some harsh days, as her health has seemed to hit a decline, following a recent filing from her former court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, that her battle with dementia has left her “permanently incapacitated” (TMZ).

This filing is part of an ongoing legal battle between A+E Networks and Morrissey over the alleged exploitation of Williams during the filming of ‘Where is Wendy Williams,’ a two-part documentary on “Williams’ life following the end of her iconic talk show and the start of her guardianship in 2022” (Page Six). It was said that Morrissey wanted to stop the documentary’s release as it showed Williams in a “vulnerable state” (Page Six).

Williams took a leave from her talk show in 2021 because of health issues, which resulted in several medical tests that led to Williams being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia back in 2023. Still, it had not been revealed till after the filming of the documentary in February 2024.

Frontotemporal dementia is a group of brain diseases that affects the frontal and temporal lobes. Symptoms differ from person to person and worsen with behavioral changes, speech and language difficulties, and movement conditions.

Aphasia is a disorder that affects a person’s communication, impacting both speech and writing ability. A head injury or stroke commonly causes aphasia, but it is possible to get from a brain disease. Symptoms can include:

• Speak in short or incomplete sentences

• Speak in sentences that don’t make sense

• Substitute one word for another or one sound for another

• Speak unrecognizable words

• Have difficulty finding words

• Not understand other people’s conversation

• Not understand what they read

• Write sentences that don’t make sense (Mayo Clinic)

Williams has long been open about her struggles with Lymphedema and Graves Disease, as she has battled with her health for years. With news on the latest revelations, Williams released a statement a while back, stating, “Let me say, wow! Your response has been overwhelming. The messages shared with me have touched me, reminding me of the power of unity and the need for compassion” (Yahoo! Entertainment).

According to the Williams family, Morrissey has “unfettered access” to Williams. They were in a fight to free Williams from her Guardianship because they felt they were not in the loop about her health.
