Dentist Alleged to Plotting to Kill a Police Officer

A Colorado dentist who was accused of killing his wife has also been alleged of plotting to kill a detective

James Craig is facing two felony charges including solicitation to commit first-degree murder on an Auror Police Officer.

It was said in a court filing by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office prosecutors that, “Craig attempted to convince a fellow inmate to commit the murder…the document does not disclose the intended target, but Aurora police confirmed…it was one of the detectives who investigated the case” (CNN).

Craig was charged with the murder of his wife, Angela Craig in March 2023, after he was accused of fatally poisoning her protein shakes. “Prosecutors filed a first-degree murder charge..accusing him of having laced Angela Craig’s drinks with arsenic and cyanide” (NBC). It is alleged that Craig was planning to start a new life with another woman, after killing his wife.

Angela Craig was experiencing severe headaches and dizziness and was taken to the hospital by her husband for the third time that month, where her health began to decline, as a result, “She was placed on a ventilator in intensive care, and “she was declared medically brain dead a short time later” (NBC).

Evidence of the murder of Angela Craig began to surface and point toward her husband after the investigation had determined that she was poisoned. “A police affidavit filed in the criminal case mentions Craig had recently bought crystalline metalloid arsenic and potassium cyanide” (NBC), it was also written in the affidavit that Craig has, “An internet search history showed YouTube searches that include “Top 5 Undetectable Poisons That Show No Signs of Foul Play” (NBC).

A warrant would be put out and James Craig would be arrested 4 days after his wife had died.

After months, the trial was set for last week Thursday, November 21 but was delayed following the defense counsel of Craig’s asking to withdraw from the case following professional conflict claims. ” A hearing was held on the issue Thursday morning and as a result, the judge allowed the counsel to withdraw under the Rule of Professional Conduct. The attorney cited two specific reasons under that rule which include, “the client persists in a course of action involving the lawyer’s services that the lawyer reasonably believes is criminal or fraudulent” and  the “client insists upon taking action that the lawyer considers repugnant or with which the lawyer has a fundamental disagreement” (9News).

The following day, Craig was hit with the two new charges, as it is said that Craig tried to enlist the inmate on three occasions to kill the Aurora Officer, “once in May and June 2023 and again last month” (PEOPLE).

James Craig next hearing date is set for December 16th.
