Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden has recently been convicted for federal tax and gun convictions. President Joe Biden announced Sunday that he pardoned his son from the convictions right before he was to leave office.
This presidential pardon cannot be reverted by the upcoming president elect Donald Trump. These actions by Joe Biden completely disregarded a previous statement he made after Trump won the election. He stated that he would not be pardoning his son from the charges he acquired which he has hence gone back on.
This prevents any possibility of Hunter Biden facing any prison time which was a definite possibility for him. The judges will likely cancel the sentence hearings which were slated for December 12th and 16th. The Pardon was described to be “Broadly Crafted” by news network CNN, granting clemency for the tax and gun related offenses as well as any other federal crimes he may have committed between 2014 and 2024.
Joe Biden stated that he issued the pardon because his son was treated unfairly and held to a different standard then other people who have committed similar crimes. He additionally stated that he was instigated by his political opponents in congress to make the decision.
Joe Biden Believes that his son was singled out for prosecution due to his relationship with him which he confirmed in a statement he made. The Delaware Judge that oversaw his gun trial referred to Biden’s claims as “nonsensical”.
Hunter Biden had been convicted after a six-year trial where he was found to have possessed an illegal firearm and have avoided paying 1.4 million dollars in taxes. He was also reported to have struggled with drug abuse and spending the money he had withheld from taxes on sexual services. Hunter Biden also paid all his taxes back and did not do anything violent with the firearm which was another reason Joe Biden decided to pardon him.
Ultimately the decision to pardon his son by Joe Biden was fueled by skepticism for political opponents and dissatisfaction with the ethicality of the trial.
