It is with a heavy heart to announce that Jimmy Carter has died. Carter was a tireless advocate for peace, human rights, justice, and equality worldwide. He founded the Carter Center in 1982 which has worked on various issues, including disease prevention, election monitoring, and conflict resolution. He has worked to improve access to healthcare in developing countries and has led efforts to fight diseases such as river blindness, trachoma, and lymphatic filariasis. Carter mediated several international conflicts such as the 1994 agreement between the United States and North Korea that froze the country’s nuclear program and moderated the conflict in Sudan which created the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts to promote peace and democracy worldwide.
His life was a testament to the power of service, compassion, and faith.
