MANCHESTER, Conn. (STN2) – The Seth Cheney Mansion in Manchester was engulfed by flames early Sunday morning, fortunately the two residents and their pet dog got out.
Although numerous cats ended up dying.
The Manchester Fire Brigade reached 139 Hartford Road just before 1 a.m. Upon arrival, flames were visible at the front of the building, with more extending to the upper levels.
Given the intensity of the blaze, a second alarm was raised, mobilizing all seven of Manchester’s fire stations to the Cheney Estate, with support from East Hartford.
Firefighters performed an interior attack and searched the premises before managing to control the fire by 2 a.m.
The property has been declared uninhabitable, and the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced individuals.
The origin of the fire is being investigated by the Manchester Fire Marshal.
