Heathers the Musical, based on the cult classic 1989 film starring Wynona Rider and Christian Slater, has at long last announced details of its return to America. After a successful set of various productions across the UK, the musical is at long last being produced in America again, in the venue where it made its Off-Broadway debut no less.
The show will see limited engagement at New World Stages, where it originally played back in 2014. Andy Fickman, who directed the show’s run in London, will return to direct. The show will run June 22nd through September 28th, with tickets set to go on sale on March 31st. The cast has yet to be announced.
Heathers the Musical, co-written by Kevin Murphy and Lawrence O’Keefe, follows the story of Veronica Sawyer, a high school senior at Westerberg High. She recently found herself taken into a powerful clique of girls called the Heathers, because each of them is named Heather. She encounters and falls for the new kid in town, Jason Dean, or JD for short. Their relationship ends up shaking the town of Westerberg to its core. Can Veronica hold onto her principles when things get dangerous?
