Former UConn basketball star Ryan Boatright is starting a new chapter in his career. The University of San Francisco announced that Boatright has joined its men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach and director of player development. Boatright was a key part of UConn’s 2014 national championship team, playing alongside Shabazz Napier and helping the Huskies make their memorable run through the NCAA Tournament. He was also named to the All-Final Four team during that championship run.
After leaving UConn, Boatright spent more than a decade playing professional basketball, including time in the NBA G League and overseas in countries such as Spain, France, Lithuania and Turkey. Boatright retired from playing after the 2024-25 season and began looking for opportunities to get into coaching. Now, at 33 years old, he’ll bring that experience to San Francisco as he begins his college coaching career. Boatright said that after spending his life as a point guard, moving into coaching felt like a natural transition.
