At the University of Hartford the Mens soccer season has been off to a great start their non-conference play has led the team to strong confidence coming into their America East games. Coach Poitras told us all about the non-conference play “We had a better non-conference schedule and we did much better in the early part of the season so now we’re hoping that carries us over into the season. Which were excited about getting started with Boston University this weekend, and we think that our experience with being 6 and 4 last year we were coming out of our non-conference play were probably 2-6 so it’s kind of reversed and the guys have got a lot more confidence going into the conference season.”With conference play beginning on Saturday against Boston University, the boys have had a little time to relax before the team plays again.
Anthony Santaga one of the starting forwards forwards for the Hawks spoke about how the team is using their week off. “This week is probably the first week off, we’ve been playing Wednesday games so we get to relax a little bit and focus more on our team rather than scouting the other teams so we’ve been fixing up little details that we need this week.”
Although the team has been busy fixing up some details, the coach has been busy strategizing for the upcoming games. STN sat down with Coach Tom Poitras to find out how the team was preparing for conference play. “Well Stony Brook is the defending champion they beat us in the finals last year, so we’re looking forward to seeing those guys, its homecoming weekend, alumni weekend and hawktober fest, so there is a lot going on on campus, so that should be a good game, but all the games are going to be good and tough, the BU game is, they came in second in the league so that will be a tough game to start the conference with but Stony Brook is the team everyone is gunning for we’re looking forward to playing them.”
