Hartford Women’s Soccer returned to form on Wednesday following their 3-1 loss to Colby College over the weekend, defeated the St. Joseph’s Blue Jays 6-0 in an impressive offensive showcase.
It was a quiet night for the Hawks defense, as St. Joseph’s didn’t register their first shot on target until midway through the second half. However, the offense struggled in the first few minutes of play.
It was a surprisingly slow start for the Hawks, with multiple Hartford chances unable to find the back of the net. Whether it be wide crosses, too much power on through-balls, or attacks fizzling out, the Hawks were held scoreless through 25 minutes despite having numerous chances.
However, it was a 28th minute through ball from May Cervone that jumped over the Blue Jays defense and found the foot of Imani Jenkins, with the shot getting past Blue Jays goalkeeper Madison Corcoran, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Just over two minutes later, Imani Jenkins and Kathleen Brush set the scene for Cameryn Wilkinson’s first goal of the season to double the lead to 2.
Brush would be the star of the game, with the assist of Wilkinson being her first of three on the night. Adding on to her stellar night, Brush scored the Hawks third goal of the game and sent the cross in to Mayson Massaro from the corner to get her first goal of the year just before halftime.
Into the Second Half, Imani Jenkins scored her 60th career goal, tying her for most goals in school history, subsequently giving the Hawks a 5-0 lead. Wrapping up the goal scoring for the Hawks was Morgan Egan getting her first of the season in the 70th minute, as the Hawks wrapped up a 6-0 win.
Hartford Women’s Soccer returns to Al-Marzook Field on Saturday to face off against the Gulls of Endicott College to open Conference of New England Play. The Game is expected to start at 12:00 PM.
