The University of Hartford women’s soccer team won their fourth game in a row this past Sunday afternoon as the Hawks shutout 23rd ranked Maine by the score of 1-0 at Alumni Field.
Forward Meagan Riemer scored the only goal of the game 6:46 into overtime as the Hawks saw their record improve to 6-8-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the America East Conference.
Sara Flowers and Brittany Black assisted on the lone goal of the game in overtime. Black found Riemer along the left side of the goal box and Riemer was able to kick it into the left corner for the game winner.
Throughout the first half, neither team had a great scoring chance, but Hartford and Maine both had chances to get on the board in the second half, but were denied due to strong goaltending from both teams.
In the first half, Maine goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips made a diving stop off a shot from Black. Hawks goalie Liz Cook kept the game scoreless in the second half when she stopped a shot off the foot of Natalie Berry from within the box.
Despite the loss, Maine out-shot Hartford 17-8 in the game. Cook made five saves in the game and notched her third shutout of the season.
Hartford will next play Vermont this Thursday, October 12 at and try to keep their winning streak alive.
