It wasn’t pretty, but the Hartford women’s basketball team was able to hold onto a 60-54 win over the last place Albany Great Danes on Saturday afternoon at the Chase Arena. It was Hartford ninth win in a row.
Hartford (18-7 overall, 11-1 in the America East) and Albany (7-19 overall, 3-10 America East) played a sloppy first half that saw the Great Danes miss their first eight shots and shoot just 20 percent from the floor before halftime. Hartford wasn’t much better as they shot 39 percent in the first 20 minutes as they took a 27-15 lead into the break.
Albany made a game of it late as they hit 57 percent of their shots in the second half to pull within eight, 49-41. But Hartford was able to hold on as Diana Delva scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 26 minutes comming off the bench. Danielle Hood added 16 points of her own and Katie Kelly chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds in the win.
Hartford stands in first place in the AE, but with four games remaining before the AE Championship, anything can happen.
Hartford puts their nine game winning streak on the line this Wendesday, Feb. 21st when they host Boston University at 7:30 p.m.
