Vin Baker, Jeff Bagwell, Pat Sheehan and most recently Freddy Adu all have something in common they all graduated from the University of Hartford. They also have something else in common; they all went into the pro league of their respective sports. Well, pretty soon the University of Hartford will be able to add Hartford Hawks Woman’s basketball star Danielle Hood to the list. Hood will be joining this years WNBA Draft class that will include, Rutgers guard Essence Carson, Tennessee’s guard Shannon Bobbitt and UCONN’s Charde Houston just to name a few. The WNBA Draft will take place on Wednesday April ninth down in Florida and will be televised on ESPN two starting at one o’clock.
However, in order to increase her rank in the draft, Hood is attending a pre draft camp down at the University of Tampa where if anything at least it will be warm. At this camp there will be Coaches and General Managers from all fourteen WNBA Teams in order to evaluate each player’s performance while the players compete in many different activities to try and move up the draft pole.
Hood will graduate Hartford as the school’s second all time leading scorer with a total of 1,679 points and, will graduate along with her fellow classmates Jamie McCabe and Courtney Gomez with a total of 102 wins in four years. Not to leave out the several America East Tournament Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances to go along with that. The Hawks had a total of 28 wins this season, including another win against a ranked opponent in Michigan State. The 28 wins is a school record and Danielle Hood led the team in scoring throughout that long marathon which is the regular season. This all leads up to a big day for Danielle Hood and the rest of The University of Hartford community this upcoming Wednesday when she along with everyone else will find out where she will be tearing it up next.
If everything goes according to plan, The University of Hartford can say that they have another Hawk in the pros.
