I’m sure if you had asked the Lady Hawks at the beginning of the season if they thought they would start 3-10 going into conference play they would all laugh at you. However a poor start is no laughing matter in Hartford. The girls just barely squeaked out a one point win against Coppin State to end non-conference play on New Years. I guess New Years resolution was to win a bit more because they took down rival Vermont in there first game of 2011.
Alex Hall led the team with 17 points and for once the team shot 50 percent from the field. It is important to remember though that this Vermont squad that may have won the Conference Championship last season but this year has yet to win a single game. Regardless of beating an 0-13 squad this is UHA’s second win in a row. The team has some momentum to build on now heading into conference play.
Their next match is January 5th against Maine at home and then three days later they play Albany. Maine having a 2-11 record should not be a problem however Albany has the only winning record overall in the America East (7-6) and could be a threat. Momentum is a powerful thing ladies and gentleman the best thing to do is sit back and enjoy the show. As I said on the Sports Section a few weeks ago “Wait until conference play, that is where the Hawks will shine”
