Career Services will be hosting a Majors Exploration Fair next week for the students on campus who may not be entirely sure of which major they wish to pursue.
John Kniering, the director of Career Services, says, “The goal of the fair is to get students connected before they have to declare a major and that they have access to good information about career outcomes that evolve from a particular major or area of study.”
The fair is mainly intended for Sophomores at Hillyer College, who are preparing to declare their majors but is open to all students who may want to learn something new, or even become more knowledgeable of their own decided major.
“Let us imagine that you’re a Sophomore and you’ve decided that Politics and Government is a major that you’re interested in, but you don’t know whether you want to work in the area of ‘Information Technology’ or ‘Policy of Development’ or perhaps ‘Foreign Affairs’. There are so many things that you can do for the Federal Government, it’s often baffling. So, to make a good decision about how to capitalize on that major, where it might lead and maybe what kinds of courses to include as electives, it’s useful to talk to people who are involved in the kind of work that you want,” says Kniering.
The Majors Explorations Fair will be held from Tuesday, October 29th, through Thursday, October 31st, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Regents Commons of the Shaw Center. For more information, you can visit Career Services in Gengras Student Union Room 309.
