Business Insurance magazine, an information resource for the insurance industry, ranked the Barney School of Business number two in the nation for insurer hiring of 2012-2013 graduates.
“Every year they collect information from U.S. business schools on the size of their insurance programs and the placement of graduates from those insurance programs and over 80% of our students graduating with degrees in insurance…were hired,” Barney School of Business Martin Roth says.
Roth attributes the high ranking to hardworking faculty at the Barney School and the relationship the school has with nearby insurance companies.
“They do a great job across the curriculum with our students and a great job with the course work which is related to insurance, economics, finance and actuarial science – the types of things that our students are studying who are getting jobs with these insurance companies. I think it also speaks well of the type of partnerships that we have with the insurance industry here in Hartford and the greater Hartford area.”
This honor will bring many opportunities to students of the Barney School of Business in finding internships (which are required for all Barney students), and finding jobs after graduation.
“I think it’s a great signal for current students that there are really great job opportunities for them, that the large insurance companies right here in the greater Hartford area… are very interested in our graduates and bringing our graduates into their companies to help them become managers,” Roth says.
Roth also hopes that Barney School’s high ranking will attract future students to the University of Hartford.
“We’ll be able to tell perspective students and their parents that we’re credited by the major crediting body of business schools. We’re among the 5% of business schools worldwide that have a accreditation from an organization called ACSB. We’re listed by Princeton Review as one of the top 295 business schools. Now we can also share with them that we’re ranked #2 in the country for insurance majors being hired by insurance companies.”
Students who wish to pursue careers with insurance companies can major in Insurance and Finance or minor in Actuarial Science and Finance.
