A Halloween treat that’s sure to “pop”

If you’re looking for a spooky, yet fun recipe to make for October 31st, try out these eyeball cake pops.

To prepare, these are the ingredients you will need:

* One (1) box of yellow cake mix
* One-half (1/2) cup of vegetable oil
* One (1) cup of water
* Three (3) eggs

* One (1) package of white candy circles
* One (1) package of green candy circles
* One (1) package of lollipop sticks
* One (1) red edible ink pen

* One (1) cake pop maker

1.) Begin by following the instructions to prepare your cake batter on the back of the cake mix box. Mix the ingredients together thoroughly until your batter is smooth and free of any lumps.

2.) Plug your cake pop maker in, and let it heat up until ready. **WARNING**: The cake pop maker may be hot, so use caution when opening or handling it.

3.) Open the maker, and begin pouring your batter into the holes. You must be quick, as the cake will already begin to cook slightly as you fill the rest of the molds. In making these, I was able to fill about four or five of the molds before the batter spilled over into other molds and ran over.

4.) Wait 5 minutes, then open the lid slowly. Your cake should be a golden-brown color, and should take the shape of a small sphere. If more time is needed, close the lid and let the cake bake more. If finished, transfer the cake balls to a cooling rack.

5.) Place the bag of white candy circles into a microwavable-safe bowl, and heat them up until they have melted all the way through.

6.) Take a lollipop stick, and dip the tip of one end into the melted candy coating, then press that end into the cake pop until the stick is securely in place. Place your cake pops in the freezer to allow them to harden for 1-2 minutes.

7.) Once hardened, remove from freezer, and begin dipping into the candy coating. Coat the entire cake pop with the white candy coating, ensuring you have a smooth, even coating all around the pop, and that no spots are bare.

8.) Remove from the candy coating, and before the coating hardens, press a green candy circle into the front of the cake pop. The circle may try to come loose, so hold your finger there for a few seconds to keep the circle firmly in place.

9.) Stick the lollipop stick end of your cake pop into a holding tray (if you do not have a cake pop holding tray, you can use a large chunk of styrofoam. Press the lollipop stick into the styrofoam and push down until the cake pop is secure.) Place back in the freezer to let harden.

10.) Once the coating had hardened fully, you can decorate the eyeball pop by drawing small red veins with your edible ink pen, and by adding a small white pupil on the green candy circle. Dip the tip of a lollipop stick in the melted white candy coating, and gently dab at the middle of the green circle to create a white pupil.

11.) Serve, and enjoy! Happy Halloween!
