It has been an up and down year for the Hawks Men’s Basketball team but, they pulled out a win on Tuesday beating the Binghamton Bearcats 62-61.
Hartford was riding on a four game losing streak, their longest so far this season, and fell down to 5th in the standings. This was a break out game for Freshman Forward Jack Hobbs who finished leading UHa in scoring with 12 points in a back and forth game.
Binghamton took an early lead in the first half going up by 5 just five minutes into the game. That was short lived however, as a layup by Justin Graham gave Hartford the lead by 1 with 9 minutes left in the 1st. From there the Hawks never looked back as they jumped out to a lead as big as 17 with 12 minutes left in the 2nd half.
At that point the Bearcats started to make a comeback as Romello Walker hit a jump shot followed by a layup by Justin McFadden to bring them to within 9. With 7 minutes left Yosef Yacob made a three pointer to bring BU down by 6. After a free throw made by McFadden, Yacob made another three and brought Uha’s lead down to 2.
But, Hartford struck back with Graham, Corban Wroe, Nate Sikma, and Wes Cole all scoring bring it to 62-58 with 2 seconds left. A 3 pointer by Marlon Beck II at the buzzer was good but not good enough as it only gave Binghamton 61 just one shy of Hartford.
Next up for the Hawks is a match-up at home next Tuesday against UNH.
