The University campus has begun celebrating the various festivities during this year’s Spring Fling weekend.
The annual third weekend of April kicks off Spring Fling across campus, where students, guests, and alumni enjoy the various activities throughout the Village Apartments, culminating with the main stage concert taking place again this year in the parking lot of the Konover Campus Center.
The main stage concert will be held Saturday beginning at 5 p.m., featuring rappers Bryce Vine, French Montana, and headliner T.I. Following last year’s controversy where one of the artists scheduled for the Spring Fling concert did not appear, Campus Activities Team has confirmed that all three artists have signed contracts to appear and perform this weekend.
Spring Fling kicked off Thursday with a change in activity from past years, as the Campus Council held a “fiesta” on the Village Lawn, followed by the Campus Activities Team’s annual Talent Show and RHA Bingo inside Lincoln Theater. Spectrum also held their annual performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show inside the Konover Great Room.
On Friday, the Multicultural Organizations on campus held a Cultural Mashup Festival, beginning with a parade starting at Public Safety and ending in Alumni Plaza.
The University Commons will be closed for dinner, but Dining Services will be holding a barbecue at the Commons from 4:30-7:30.
Starting at 7 p.m., the annual Battle of the Bands performance will take place on Friday on the main stage in F Lot, followed by a “PB and ?” event in the Wellness tent in between Konover and the Village Quad 7. The event will also be taking place Saturday from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m.
On Saturday, activities will be taking place all day throughout the Village lawn, including lawn activities and DJ performances, the Alpha Sigma Phi sponsored Sausage Fest, and the Holi: Festival of Colors.
Konover will be holding a barbecue on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., where students can use their meal plan to swipe in to get food.
All students and guests that are attending Spring Fling this weekend must be wearing their wristbands in order to walk from the academic to the residential side of campus. Security will be checking bags and vehicles of any students or guests who walk or drive onto the residential side of campus.
