An eight year old Swedish girl, Saga Vanecek, stepped on an 85 – centimeter sword while helping her father with his boat in Vidostern Lake in Sweden. The sword was made out of wood and leather and it is believed to be about 1,500 years old.
Saga thought the sword was a stick at first and said “I picked it up and was going to drop it back in the water, but it had a handle, and I saw that it was a little bit pointy at the end and all rusty,”.
Saga’s finding of this sword led others to seek out other long lost treasures that could be in the lake. The Vanecek family moved to Sweden from Minnesota last year. The irony of finding the sword is that Saga is a huge Minnesota Vikings fan and she claims that the sword looks like one a viking would use.
