April 11th Union leaders sent out a text for a unified strike on Stop and Shop stores. 3100 employees walked out of over 200 stores. Both the stores and employees are facing consequences due to the strike. Stop and Shop stores are losing costumers and the employees are losing their paychecks.
Even when facing these economical setbacks, employees are determined to keep the strike going until a fair agreement is made. Ishma Roman, a Stop and Shop employee of over 30 years stated, “They’re not telling us what kind of raises or our future part-timers what kind of raises they’re going to give them or what they’re going to give them for insurance.” The strikers are concerned not only about their own benefits but about what the Stop and Shop corporation will do for their future employees.
