Trump Impeachment

House of Representatives impeach President Donald Trump

On Wednesday, December 18th, the U.S. House of Representatives impeached President Donald Trump on two articles of impeachment for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Jerry Nadler, Judiciary Committee Chairmen stated that the articles of impeachment were filed due to Trump’s actions of soliciting foreign interference in the 2020 presidential election, compromising national security, threatening the honesty of the upcoming election, and hiding evidence from Congress.

Pelosi opened the debate stating “Today we are here to defend democracy for the people.” Democrats said they were willing to lose their jobs in order to protect the democracy from Trump and hold him accountable for his actions.

Trump has called the whole inquiry a “hoax” “witch hunt” and “sham”. He expressed his anger through an aggressive tweet he tweeted earlier today.

The articles of impeachment will now move forward to the Senate for trial that will take place in January 2020 where two- thirds of a vote is necessary for conviction. Republicans argue that Democrats want Trump out of office because they will not beat him in the 2020 election. Republican Chris Stewart stated “This vote is about one thing, and one thing only: They hate this president.”

Donald Trump is now the third U.S. President to be impeached.
