Leonardo DiCaprio helps launch America's Food Fund

With many communities being impacted by the Coronavirus, Leonardo DiCaprio is helping launch America’s Food Fund. To launch the new initiative, DiCaprio is serving as a co-founder along with philanthropist Laurence Powell Jobs. The organization has already raised $12 million in order to help the communities impacted by Covid-19.

In regards to the virus, America’s Food Fund plans on teaming up with other hunger relief programs such as World Central Kitchen and Feeding America. The organization plan on targeting low-income families, the elderly, individuals who are struggling to make ends meet, and children who rely on school lunch programs. Apple and the Ford Foundation are also providing money in support of the new initiative.

In a state DiCaprio had this to say. “In the face of this crisis, organizations like World Central Kitchen and Feeding America have inspired us all with their unwavering commitment to feed the most vulnerable people in need.” I thank them for their tireless work on the frontlines, they deserve all of our support.”

Other celebrities have started to donate to the organization such as Oprah Winfrey. Winfry announced she will be donating $1 million dollars to the fund as well as a $10 million donation towards feeding the hungry during the crisis. Donations to America’s Food Fund are being accepted and will be used towards getting food to the people in need.

In a statement with Powell Jobs, they had this to say. “With millions losing their jobs and programs like school lunches in jeopardy, making sure people aren’t going hungry is one of the utmost urgency.”
