CFP Breakdown and Heisman Watch

There is one moth left in the College Football regular season so its time to look at each teams path to the playoff

The First College Football Playoff Rankings were released, and we got our first look at what the 12-team playoff could look like. Here is the top 12,

1 Oregon

2 Ohio State

3 Georgia

4 Miami

5 Texas

6 Penn State

7 Tennessee

8 Indiana

9 BYU

10 Notre Dame

11 Alabama

12 Boise State

These were the rankings heading into Saturday

Big Ten

The Big Ten is the most top-heavy conference right now with four top 8 teams. Undefeated Indiana and Oregon lead the way currently and one loss Ohio State and Penn State have favorable matchups and could make a push to the Big Ten Championship. Oregon has eased through the Big Ten in their first year in the conference being the first team to beat both Michigan and Ohio State in the same year since Michigan State in 2015, the ducks have Wisconsin and Washington to end the year and should cruise into the B10 championship game. Ohio State and Indiana will face off on November 23rd in Columbus in what will be a crucial game to end the year and Penn State is sitting back and hoping they win out and two of those teams drop a game so they can sneak into the conference championship.

SEC

The SEC has six teams that could potetially make the playoff right now, after Alabama’s beatdown of LSU in Death Valley and Ole Miss beating Georgia 28-10, LSU is eliminated and all eyes are on the 6 teams, Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Georgia, and Texas A&M. Georgia will look to respond in a major way as they play Tennessee this week in what is an elimination game for them. Tennessee could still make it even with the loss. Texas and Texas A&M will play in the last week of the season and a spot in the CFP and SEC championship game could fall on the shoulders of that game. Alabama is almost a certain lock after beating LSU, Ole Miss will need to win out to make it. The committee can’t let 6 SEC teams, so they need to hope that everything plays it self out.

BIG 12

The Big 12 saw a lot of changes this summer, losing Texas and Oklahoma, but adding Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and BYU. BYU is ranked 9 and is undefeated and control their own destiny, that won’t come easy for them as they luckily escaped Utah this week. Watch out for Coach Prime and Colorado, they are quietly 7-2 and ranked 20th, the Buffs wen to Texas Tech and pulled out a really impressive win, they have another one this week as they play Utah at home.

ACC

The ACC has been absolute chaos all year, except for Miami lead on the backs of transfer QB and Heisman candidate Cam Ward, well he didn’t play like a Heisman on Saturday as Miami suffered their first loss in a upset loss to Georgia Tech, Cam Ward made some questionable decisions that costed Miami the game, if they want to make a run the playoffs Miami’s whole team is going to rely on Cam Ward not playing like he did this week. Clemson and Pitt were set for a huge game next week but they both lost last weekend and now their game has significantly less stakes. SMU is now a game ahead of both of them, SMU is another team that changed conferences, is ranked 13 and on the outside looking in, and with help, that they should get, they should be in prime position to make a run at the playoffs. After blowing out Pitt last week, they play Virginia and Cal to end their season.

Group of 5

Boise State and Army are the two Group of 5 teams that really have a shot at making it. Boise State on the backs of Heisman favorite Ashton Jeanty have put themselves in position to have the crucial number 12 spot, however, if Boise State were to lose a game and Army beats Notre Dame in a few weeks at Yankee Stadium, then Army would surely jump them and steal the spot over them.

Heisman Trophy

At this point of the season it’s a three horse race, Ashton Jeanty, Travis Hunter, and Cam Ward. Travis Hunter is the most incredible athlete at this stage since Charles Woodson him playing both Corner and Wide Receiver and playing them well has the world on watch but not having the stats that Jeanty and Ward do might come back to bite him. Jeanty has rushed for over 1500 yards and 20 touchdowns on less than 200 carries! He is on pace to break records set by Barry Sanders Himself. Cam Ward has thrown for 3100 yards and 29 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, while having the Miami offense as the best scoring offense in the country as they’ve scored 47 points a game and 556 yards of total offense. There’s three weeks of the season left and the ending of the season should be classical.
