Week 12 Heisman Updates

Some major college football shakeups last weekend have caused some chaos in the Heisman race.

This is the closest the Heisman race has been in a long time, in my mind at least there is a clear front runner. However, when looking at odds online there is quite a shakeup and not one player has a clear advantage at the current moment, let’s go through the candidates after their Week 11 performances.

Ashton Jeanty

Jeanty has been electrifying this season and he does not seem to be slowing down as he carried the ball 34 times for 209 yards and three touchdowns in Boise States 28-21 win over Neveda. Through nine games, Jeanty has 224 carries for 1,734 yards and 23 rushing touchdowns. With three regular-season games left on the Boise State schedule, Jeanty is just 894 yards shy of the record held by Barry Sanders. Jeanty is the biggest reason why Boise State is ranked 12th right now.

Travis Hunter

The two-way phenom has been every bit of important to Colorados success this season the Buffaloes are ranked number 17 and have a real shot at making the CFP. Hunter has racked up 69 receptions for 856 yards and 9 touchdowns in 9 games. So far this year he has totaled an estimated amount of 1,000 snaps this season and staying of the field and playing both positions well. Hunter will try to become the second primary defensive player to win the Heisman.

Dillon Gabirel

He’s the quarterback for the best team in the country so of course he’s going to be here. Last week he became the all-time collegiate leader in passing touchdowns. He’s thrown for 2,848 yards with 22 touchdowns and 5 interceptions with a 86.7 QBR, the third highest in the country.

Cam Ward

Ward’s Heisman stock took a big dip after Miami’s stunning loss to Georgia Tech. Ward had multiple costly turnovers that cost Miami the game. But nonetheless he leads the country in every passing stat possible, he has 3,494 yards 32 TD’s only 6 interceptions and the highest QBR in the country with an 89.5.

Jaxson Dart

I had to throw the Ole Miss QB in here after his performance last week in Ole Miss’s huge win against Georgia, it’s win out and you’re in for Ole Miss. Dart has been fantastic all year he’s right behind Ward in passing stats he has 3,409 yards and 22 touchdowns with only 4 interceptions to show for it. Dart’s name could rise up the Heisman watch in the final weeks of the season if this chaos of this season continues.

The ceremony is in New York in just about a month and it will come down to the wire for who will lift the most prestigious individual award in college football.
