Macy’s 2024 Thanksgiving Day Parade

The 98th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is set to be the largest yet

Anticipated by many, Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade is this week, which marks this year as the 98th annual parade, almost a century since it was started in 1924.

This year is said to be” its largest yet, with more than 5,000 volunteers, 17 featured character balloons, 22 floats, 15 heritage, and novelty balloons, more than 700 clowns, 11 marching bands, 10 performance groups, and performances by some of today’s biggest music stars” (NBC)

Starting on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and culminating at Macy’s flagship store on 34th Street, the parade is set to feature many new additions:

 

 

This year, six new featured balloons will make their debut, including:

  • Minnie Mouse
  • Extraordinary Noorah & The Elf on the Shelf
  • Gabby from Gabby’s Dollhouse
  • Goku from Dragon Ball
  • Marshall from PAW Patrol
  • Spider-Man

The parade will feature the debut of six new floats:

  • Candy Cosmos by Haribo
  • Dora’s Fantastical Rainforest by Nickelodeon & Paramount
  • Magic Meets the Seas by Disney Cruise Line
  • Pasta Knight by Rao’s Homemade
  • Masterfeastby Netflix
  • Wondrous World of Wildlife by Bronx Zoo.  (NBC)

Appearances are set to be made by many names, ranging from performances by, “Bishop Briggs, Kylie Cantrall, Chlöe, Dan + Shay, Dasha, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Host Jimmy Fallon and the show’s house band, The Roots, Coco Jones, Walker Hayes, Ariana Madix, Joey McIntyre, Idina Menzel, Natti Natasha, T-Pain, Rachel Platten, Lea Salonga, The Temptations, The War and Treaty, Alex Warren, and Sebastián YatraDancer Charli D’Amelio will also perform, as will ballet dancers Tiler Peck and Roman Mejia” (NBC). Jennifer Hudson and Billy Porter are also set to perform.

Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba in the recently released Wicked, will appear, along with Liza Colon Zayas, Tom Kenny, Jonathan Bennett, Alison Brie, and the NY Liberty.

The weather is looking to hold this parade down as a winter storm threatens to hit the Northeast. Rain is expected, but heavy winds won’t be a problem until later in the afternoon on Thanksgiving Day.

The parade will be hosted by TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker. NBC will air it from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 28.
