The Baseball Hall of Fame has two new members tonight, as infielder Dick Allen and outfielder Dave Parker received the necessary 75% of the Eras Committee vote on the Classic Baseball Era Ballot from the pre-1980s.
Dave Parker
Dave “The Cobra” Parker received 14 out of a possible 16 votes and will take his place amongst baseball’s immortals after a 27 year wait. The 1972 Most Valuable Player, Parker was one of the best players in the MLB in the late seventies, and remained consistent up until his age 35 season. However, controversies limited his Hall of Fame support, and according to Fox Sports, “Parker never got more 24.5% during 15 appearances on the BBWAA ballot from 1997-2011.”
The 73 Year Old. Parker will be officially inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in July 2025, alongside infielder Dick Allen.
Dick Allen
Dick Allen received 13 out of a possible 16 votes, securing his spot in the Hall of Fame four years after his passing at the age of 78 years old. Allen’s big-league career started with a “Rookie of the Year” award, and reached its highest peak in 1972, when he won the American League’s “Most Valuable Player” award. Allen struggled on the Baseball Writers Ballot, and fell just one vote short of Hall of Fame selection in 2021. (MLB).
27 Years after falling off the ballot and 41 years after first being listed on the Writers Ballot, “Crash” has his legacy secured in Cooperstown.
