Dodgers land another Japanese Star in Roki Sasaki

Japanese Star Pitcher signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed Roki Sasaki to a minor league deal. The Japanese star pitcher joins a Dodgers team with WBC teammates and World Series Champions Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

The 23 year old pitched well in the World Baseball Classic allowing only 4 runs with 3 of them being earned, while also striking out 11 batters in 7.2 innings.

Sasaki began playing professionally in Japan in 2021 with the Chiba Lotte Marines, posting a 4-2 record with a 1.84ERA  with 87ks in only 83.1 innings.

Sasaki finished his Japanese career with the Marines with a final record of 30-15 with an 2.02ERA and 524Ks.

Sasaki has been dominant in Japan and the Dodgers are looking forward to see how he does in America.

The defending World Series Champions now have three of the best options Japan had to offer for baseball with Shohei Ohtani, Yamamoto and now Roki Sasaki. Contract details are yet to be announced other than Sasaki was signed to a minor league deal. The news came from Sasaki as he posted on Instagram a Dodger hat and saying “I have signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.”

Sasaki before signing had narrowed his decision down to the Dodgers and the Blue Jays, both teams have showed promise in signing free agents and bettering their teams.

Before the final decision Sasaki met with both teams one more time, this time allowing teams to bring players to the meetings. Sasaki waited until Friday night to make the decision public.
