Coming off a Cinderella type run in the 2024 MLB Playoffs the New York Mets have only gotten better. After seeing their season end after taking the Los Angeles Dodgers to 6 games in the NLCS the Mets can smell blood in the water and have only gotten more hungry. With the additions of Clay Holmes and Juan Soto who both played for the New York Yankees in 2024 the team has added some players who show up when the lights are brightest.

With the Mets having an established closer in Edwin Diaz it will be interesting to see how Clay Holmes will play. Clay Holmes was a closer for the Yankees the majority of the 2024 season before being replaced due to not performing. The Mets came out in the offseason saying that Holmes will be a starter. This move could be good for Holmes with early low stress appearances, however Clay Holmes has not been a starter since he first broke into the MLB back in 2018, he would start 4 of 11 games that he played in while in that time period throwing 26.1 innings. This stat averages out to be about 2 innings a game, meaning that Holmes is good for short relief appearances but should not be used as a starter and be expected to go a lot of innings like most starters.

Now looking at the biggest offseason move for the Mets, Juan Soto. The 4x All Star dominated in 2024 for the New York Yankees leading them to their first World Series appearance since 2009. Putting up a .288 batting average with 109 runs batted in, Juan Soto is guaranteed to be a threat in any lineup. The Soto signing was very shocking to many Yankee fans however with Soto having a career year with 41 home runs hit over the wall as well. Looking at Soto in the playoffs he put up a .327 batting average which is the highest of his career in the post season with only 9 strikeouts in 49 at bats Soto was a threat to all pitchers that he faced.
