Coming off a heartbreaking loss in game 5 of the World Series the New York Yankees look to bounce back. With the additions of Devin Williams and Max Fried the pitching staff is destined to be a lot better than the year prior. The Yankees also said goodbye to some key players from the 2024 season including Clay Holmes and Juan Soto.
The 2024 season came to a close when the Los Angeles Dodgers won game 5 of the World Series against the Yankees. The loss came primarily from the 5th inning. For many Yankee fans they don’t want to admit the inning happened, the start of the downfall from the inning was when Aaron Judge missed a routine fly ball to Center Field off the bat of Tommy Edman, after that the inning just kept getting worse and worse. With the Dodgers eventually tying the game and then winning the game.
The Yankees pitching staff going into 2025 is looking very rough. With the guarantee that Gerrit Cole will not be available for the season, and the reigning Rookie of the Year Luis Gil will not be available for at least 6 weeks, the Yankees rotation is missing out on two very big arms. However the Yankees did add Devin Williams for their bullpen, the closer comes into the 2025 season with a career 1.83 ERA along with 68-78 in save opportunities. The Yankees also added starting pitcher Max Fried to the rotation, the 2024 all star enters the season following a 11-10 record from 2024 including 3.25 ERA and 166 strikeouts. Fried spent the first 8 seasons of his career with the Braves so for him it will be an adjustment playing for a different team.
Looking at the offense now, the Yankees will be without Giancarlo Stanton for an unknown amount of time following what is considered a severe elbow injury with injuries to his tendons. Before the injuries were announced the Yankees brought in Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs, the former All Star, put up a .266 batting average with 18 home runs. It is expected that Bellinger will play the outfield for the Bronx Bombers. The Yankees also added Paul Goldschmidt, the former MVP hit a .245 average for the Cardinals while also sending 22 balls over the fence, along with that Goldschmidt had 5 errors in 1216 opportunities, it is safe to say that the Yankees will need this type of fielding following the season they had.
Yankee fans don’t have a lot to look forward to for the 2025 season, with the two players who helped the Yankees get to the World Series either gone or injured the team will have a lot of questions to answer. Hopefully for the Yankees, the team can still perform without some key names. As the team still looks for their first World Series win since 2009 the team will have a lot to prove.
