Having their season end following a loss to the New York Mets in the National League Divisional Round the Philadelphia Phillies enter 2025 with a vengeance. With a 3-1 series loss to end the season the team will look to go back to the World Series for the first time since 2022 where they lost to the Houston Astros.
Looking at the pitching staff, the team comes into 2025 with one of the best closers in the league with Jordan Romano, where when he was healthy for the Blue Jays was dominant, looking at his 2023 season he went 36-40 on saves with only 20 runs allowed through 59 innings. Unfortunately he didn’t have the same numbers in 2024 where he was injured with elbow inflammation. Looking at Jesús Luzardo as well he missed a lot of the 2024 season with injury as well, playing only 12 games for the Marlins. However looking at his 2023 season, he had a 10-10 record with 208 strikeouts in 178.2 innings of work.
Looking at the offense, there will not be too many changes to the lineup other than the addition of Max Kepler. It will be expected that the outfield will include Brandon Marsh, Nick Castellanos and Max Kepler. The Phillies played well securing the 2nd best record in the National League regular season, meaning the lineup won’t be as much of a question as it is for other teams.
Phillies fans have a lot to look forward to in 2025. With the additions of Romano and Kepler the team will be able to get a lead and keep it. There will also be some fighting in the bullpen to keep a closer role, between José Alvarado and Jordan Romano it is safe to say the team will always have a closer available out of the bullpen.
