CFB Week 5 Recap

What an unbelievable weekend of College Football, from upsets to shootouts to field storming’s Week 5 had it all. Week 5 was already highly anticipated, and it was up to the challenge.

Virginia upsets 8 Florida State, has the best field storming ever

Florida State got caught in a classic look ahead game as they take on Miami this week. The Noles were behind for the majority of this game before Thomas Castellanos dropped a dime to Randy Pittman on fourth and goal from the 11 to tie the game and force overtime. Teams would trade field goals in the first overtime before Virginia QB Chandler Morris would scramble in to score 6 and add the two-point conversion to make it 46-38. FSU would get the ball and after a bad pass from Castellanos, and back-to-back drops on what would be touchdowns, the Seminoles had fourth and goal where Castellanos would be picked off trying to find Squirrell White in the corner of the endzone. White would get instantly submerged by the swarm of Virginia students as they stormed the field after their first win over a top ten team in 20 years.

James Franklin fails to win another big game as 6 Oregon beats 3 Penn State in 2OT

111k were in attendance for the annual Penn State whiteout where the Ducks were flying high. Things were all knotted up at three at halftime before Oregon had back-to-back 80-yard touchdown drives to take a 17-3 lead to start the fourth quarter. Devonte Ross would hall in a 33 yards touchdown on a dime from Drew Allar to cut the lead in half. Then on a 15 play, 65 yard drive Ross would score on a shovel pass from 8 yards out to tie the game with 30 seconds on the clock. In the first overtime both teams would trade rushing touchdowns to make it 24-24. Oregon would score on the first play of overtime but fail the two-point conversion. The Ducks lead 30-24 and Drew Allar makes a huge mistake by throwing a pick into triple coverage to seal it for Oregon.

17 Alabama haunts 5 Georgia again

Kirby Smart has only beaten Alabama once in his career but every time they had played prior to Saturday had been either on a neutral field or at Alabama, this is the first time the game had been played at Georgia with Smart in charge. Ty Simpson led Alabama to a 24-14 lead at halftime. A first half headlined by big plays and turnovers. Alabama had multiple 30 plus yards plays on their first two touchdown drives. Georgia had a 3 play 75 yard touchdown drive that was finished with a dime from Gunnar Stockton to Colbie Young. Bama’s would get a field goal off a Nate Frazier fumble inside the Georgia 15. Chauncee Bowens would dominate for the Dawgs on the next drive as he set himself up with multiple long runs and a touchdown of his own. Bama would add to their lead before half on a Ty Simpson rushing TD which was set up by a screen pass to lineman Caden Proctor. A defensive masterclass was on display in the second half with neither team budging or letting up any points outside of an opening touchdown drive from Georgia to begin the half. Bama would hold on to win 24-21. Ty Simpson was the  most inspiring part of the game for Alabama; he threw for 276 and two touchdowns as well as rushing for one. The Crimson Tide get back on track after the Week 1 loss to Florida State, the take on A red hot Vanderbilt this week.
