In a week where supposedly not a lot was supposed to happen, a lot happened. Upsets, thrilling games, what a week of College Football.
0-4 UCLA Shocks 7 Penn State
After falling at home in a double overtime thriller to Oregon, Number 7 ranked Penn State falls for the second week in a row this time to a winless UCLA team. UCLA has statistically the worst offense in the FBS and they would go on an 11-play opening drive touchdown capped off with a Nico Iamaelava pass. They would carry that momentum with them for the remainder of the game as they would never trail. Penn State would fall 42-37 at the Rose Bowl. In a press conference Penn State QB Drew Allar briefly answered Yes when asked if his team still has a chance to make the CFP. Penn State will take on Number 1 Ohio State on November 1st to decide their season.
9 Texas falls at Florida
The Arch Manning experience has not been going well as he threw 2 fourth quarter interceptions in the upset loss to Florida. Florida was absolutely dominant as they had 457 total yards of offense. DJ Lagway showed what he can do and he threw for 297 yards and two touchdowns on 21-29 attempts, RB Jadan Baugh was ran wild for 107 yards and a touchdown. Despite the two turnover Manning threw for 263, but it was not a pretty day for the Longhorns QB. Texas takes on Oklahoma next week in the Red River showdown next week, where as we have seen before, anything can happen.
10 Alabama handles 16 Vanderbilt
Vandy was hanging around for the majority of this game as we would go into halftime tied at 14. Out of the half Bama would go on three straight drives all resulting in Feild goals before Jam Miller would cap it off with a 20 yards TD run following a Vandy turnover. Alabama would win 30-14. However, it was the Ty Simpson show in Tuscaloosa as the QB and Heisman contender. He threw for 340 yards and a pair of TD’s as the Tide rolled. Jam Miller averaged over 6 yards a carry and Sophomore WR Ryan Williams finally had a great game as he posted 98 yards and a touchdown on 6 catches. Bama gets a huge win after the wild week they get a huge boost in the AP poll.
3 Miami survives 18 Florida State comeback
Miami was dominant until the fourth quarter as they were out to a 28-3 lead. Malachi Toney and Carson Beck hooked up not once but twice for a 40 yard and 44 yard touchdown. Thomas Castellanos would throw two touchdowns in 7 minutes to make it a 9-point game, then a garbage time field goal with 20 second left would wrap it up and Miami would walk away with a 28-22 win. Carson Beck would throw for four touchdowns and 261 yards only missing 7 passes on the night. Miami now has beaten three teams from Florida and keep building quality wins for their Resume, now they get a much deserved bye week.
