Angel Reese Traded to Atlanta Dream

Matthew Harris | Article Published April 7, 2026

On April 6, 2026, the Chicago Sky announced that they are trading two-time WNBA all-star Angel Reese to Atlanta Dream. The Chicago Sky received two first round draft picks in 2027 and 2028. This trade gave Chicago Sky more picks than when Luka Dončić on the Dallas Mavericks was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for the NBA which is a full year before the Angel Reese trade that just happened. Along with Angel Reese, Atlanta Dream will also receive 2028 second-round swap rights. Reese, 23, was able to defend her WNBA rebounding crown last season, averaging 12.6 per game according to ESPN. Along with ESPN reporting her average, they have also mentioned that she is the only WNBA player in history to average at least 12.0 rebound per game in a single season.

While she led the league in doubles-doubles last season playing for Chicago Sky. Angel Reese said “I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to join the Atlanta Dream organization. I’m focused on continuing to grow my game, competing at the highest level, connecting with the fans, and giving everything I’ve got to the Dream.” This was quoted by ESPN after the announcement from the trade being officially announced. While Reese is thankful for the time she had with Chicago Sky, she still caused some problems while being on the team such as expressing the team’s point guard situation publicly and that if the team doesn’t get great players, she is considering moving on. From ESPN Reese said “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a nonnegotiable for me. I’m willing and wanting to play with the best.” From this quote, many wonder if she will keep this behavior up while she will be playing for Atlanta Dream now and how it will affect the team morale. After the whole conundrum of rude comments following the quote above, Reese has apologized to her teammates according to ESPN. With this, Atlanta Dream has a whole season to look ahead to, and Chicago Sky must decide what they are doing with their first-round picks.
