Dexter Lawrence Requests Trade From NY Giants

Noah Holmgren | Article Published April 7, 2026

New York Giants star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade from the organization on Monday, April 6th. Lawrence and the Giants have been at a stalemate over contract negotiations for almost two years now, and it has finally come to a head with Lawrence wanting out. Many insiders are theorizing that Lawrence's trade request is a negotiation tactic to get the Giants to offer him a larger contract. He currently has two years remaining on his extension that he signed in 2022, a four year, $90 Million deal, much of which is non-guaranteed, and ranks 12th among defensive tackles. Lawrence wants a deal in the range of over $30 million per year, to signify his status as one of the leagues best interior defenders.

The 30 year old has been one of the best defensive lineman and nose tackles in the league over the past couple seasons, although team success has not followed his personal success. The Giants have a 13-38 record over the last three season, where Lawrence has had 21.5 sacks, 196 total tackles, while making three Pro Bowls, and making two All-Pro teams. Lawrence has become a fan favorite in The Meadowlands, earning the nickname Sexy Dexy, and having a signature dance after sacking the opposing quarterback. The front office knows how beloved Lawrence is, so they will be hesitant before trading him for any package. The Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, and Detroit Lions have been rumored to be connected to Lawrence, due to their positional need at defensive tackle, and the draft capital each team possesses to facilitate a trade.

STN will continue to provide updates on the trade saga.
