The newest radio program to air on 91.3 FM WWUH is _Beyond the Classroom_, a 30-minute program that currently airs every Thursday at 12:00 noon that highlights exemplary faculty research from the staff here at the University of Hartford.
The show is hosted by David Schoenfeld, a local host for WWUH, who also hosts the program _Tuesday Evening Classics_, which airs on the first and last Tuesdays of the month on 91.3 FM.
Schoenfeld has interviewed a number of faculty and staff, talking to them about their research activities and their work for the University, the students, and the campus community.
Some guests that have already aired on the show include University President Emeritus Humphrey Tonkin, Vice President for Student Affairs J. Lee Peters and Senior Advisor to the President Susan Fitzgerald.
Schoenfeld praises the work and effort of the University faculty and staff, saying, “All the people I’ve talked to have been excellent, in their different disciplines. And I have the sense that not only are they very actively involved in the community, and in scholarly research, but also they’re really exciting teachers.”
David Isgur, Director for Media Relations for the University, tells STN that this idea for a radio program had been a work in progress, stemming back from a former program on WWUH, similar to _Beyond the Classroom_, entitled _UHa Presents_.
Isgur also says that this show has a great deal of potential for current students and faculty, but also prospective students who are looking at the University of Hartford for future collegiate aspirations.
He says, “They’ll see and hear the faculty and how passionate they are about what they do, and the kind of things they’re working on, and what they’re imparting to their students, and I think it should send a message about the reputation of the University academically.”
