The Skunks to open Spring Fling

Michael Azar, John E. Funk, Jameson Walsh, and Cameron Goodman are four University of Hartford students and members of the band, The Skunks, who will be opening up for Reel Big Fish at the Spring Fling concert on April 12th.

The band formed last year after the friends decided to turn their jam sessions into something real and began rehearsals. The first win for The Skunks was at a battle of the bands last semester where they won a weekly gig at The Hawks Nest.

“The Hawks Nest gig was a really good start. It made us into a gigging band, really gig oriented, and we just like to put on a good show, and jump around,” said John E. Funk, lead singer and guitarist for the band.

It was at Battle of the Banda this semester that landed them the gig of opening up on the main stage, and while the band is keeping their song choices under wraps, they are promising a good show for their fans.

“I always say that it would be nice to play in front of a bunch of people but in the end like i don’t even care…. I don’t care if there’s 20 people, or 100 people, it’s a cool opportunity to play on a stage like that and it’s gonna be a lot of fun” stated Michael Azar, drummer for The Skunks.

The Skunks said there are talks of a possible summer tour, as well as an EP with original songs coming out in the near future.
