University of Hartford students may now be aware that the popular product known as Hoverboards has recently been banned from college grounds. this was due to the discovery that they would spontaneously combust whenever in use or when charging.

Hoverboards have become a national safety hazard as similar incidents have occurred on several other campuses. After discussions among other colleges and extensive research by the the University of Hartford’s Residential office, the complete ban of the product was initiated.

The ban will be in effect until the federal government and Underwriter’s Laboratories establish standards for Hoverboards, and when manufacturers can meet those standards. However, they will not be allowed on campus for an estimate of a year or more.

The U.S. Product Safety Commission also known as THE CPSC has also raised their concerns while working with the federal government to find out what is the cause of the problem and how to make them safer to use. The CPSC Chairman Elliot Kaye announced that the lack of safety procedure is unacceptable and the consumers should take the necessary precautions when operating a Hoverboard.
