Westport police are working with Draganfly, the drone company that developed the drone that can monitor temperatures as well as detect sneezing, coughing, heart rates, and breathing rates. The program is called the Flatten teh Curve Pilot Program.
Westport First Selectman, Jim Marpe stated, “By teaming up with Draganfly and the UniSA team led by Defence Chair of Sensor Systems Professor Javaan Chahl, we are able to remotely look at valuable lifesaving data and better manage current and future health emergencies.”
The drone software uses biometric readings to understand population patterns. The goal being better health monitoring of potential at-risk groups as well as crowds at beaches, trains stations, and more.
Police said it will not be used in private yards and does not use facial recognition.
