With the 2020 NFL now behind us, it is officially time to turn the page and focus on the next draft for 2021. The draft will take place in Cleveland, Ohio with first round held on April 29th, the second round on April 30th, and the remaining rounds on May 1st.
It may be a bit early, but these are all possibilities we could be seeing a year from now. The draft order is strictly based on this upcoming season’s super bowl odds. The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to finish with the worst record and draft #1. Based on the past 2 seasons statistics and Joe Burrow being taken #1 overall this year, the clear-cut projection to make the walk across the stage first is QB Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson. Lawrence will be going into his Junior year and has lead Clemson to national Championships both years he’s played after taking over for Kelly Bryant.
Justin Fields is projected to be taken second by either the Washington Redskins or Detroit Lions. Considering Dwayne Haskins has another underwhelming season and Matthew Stafford likely being out of Detroit after this year; both teams would be all in to draft a QB early. Stafford just can’t seem to stay healthy and if the Lions cannot make a playoff run this year, expect them to do whatever they can to make sure a new signal caller takes over.
The remains of the top 10 is very wide open however, players to look out for are LSU wideout Ja’Marr Chase, Clemson wideout Justyn Ross, Michigan offensive tackle Jalen Mayfield, and Oregon Offensive Tackle Penei Sewell.
There is also much speculation going around as to what the Patriots will do for their QB situation post Tom Brady. They may give Jarrett Stidham a chance in 2020, but he may flop. If this comes to be the case, look out for Georgia QB Jamie Newman to begin a new era for the Patriots in 2021.
