2024 Record: 62-100
President of Baseball Operations: Peter Bendix (2nd Season)
Manager: Clayton McCullough (Entering year 1)
Notable Offseason Acquisitions: Cal Quantrill (1 year, 3.5 million)
Finishing the 2024 season with the lowest record in the NL East, the Miami Marlins had a very quiet offseason making only one move for their big league roster. The Right Hander finished the 2024 season with a record of 8-11 with an ERA just under 5.
Miami had a very quiet offseason having their only Major League addition being Cal Quantrill. However the Marlins did add some depth in the minor leagues adding catcher Rob Brantley (35) who in 2024 had a very quiet MLB run only playing in 3 games for the Tampa Bay Rays and only getting one hit in nine at bats.
Now looking at newly appointed Manager Clayton McCullough, the Miami Marlins took a shot with McCullough who has never managed a MLB game before, however he does have experience as a manager in the minor leagues. McCullough was also part of the 2024 Los Angeles Dodgers coaching staff who had a dominant season finishing with a league best record of 98-64 while going on a run for the World Series where the Dodgers would defeat the New York Yankees in five games. Clayton McCullough was the first base coach for the Dodgers but before he was awarded the position in 2020 McCullough was the Dodgers Minor League field Coordinator.
Despite the rough season for the Marlins last year the Marlins do have a lot to look forward to. The team is rebuilding after trading a lot of their big names away including, Jake Burger and Jesús Luzardo.
So now what is it that fans have to look forward to? The Miami Marlins have done a good job keeping their rotation pretty together with Sandy Alcantara expected to make a return this season following spending the entire 2024 season on the injured list with a Right forearm flexor strain. Going along with players expected to return following missing a season with injury is Eury Perez who also missed the 2024 season with Right Elbow inflammation. The Marlins will also hope to have a healthy Edward Cabrera as he started 20 games last season winning 4 and losing 8 with an ERA just under 5. Cabrera like Alcantara and Perez did spend some time on the injured list in 2024 where he missed about two months before returning to the MLB in early July.
With the offseason coming to a close in the MLB and Spring Training right around the corner Marlins fans have every right to be excited for the future, despite this rebuild from the Marlins going slow in the early part of the rebuild the Marlins do appear to be rebuilding around their star starting pitchers in Alcantara and Perez.
For the Marlins their biggest question will be the offense. With the Marlins there are not a lot of guaranteed starters other than potentially their catcher in Nick Fortes, other than that a lot of the positions are in the air as they have called up a lot of younger players who may not have the MLB experience as players they could have gone after in the offseason.
Even with all that has gone against the Marlins in 2024 and the current offseason fans will have a lot to be excited for. With new manager Clayton McCullough and star players Sandy Alcantara and Eury Perez returning the Marlins may not win the NL East but will certainly have a lot of positives to take away from.
